Putting Your CV On-Line... A Cautionary Tale

We know it's tempting, oh yes, we know... you're sitting there feeling frustrated, sorry for yourself, unloved... and you just know that if you post your CV onto some job boards, that golden opportunity might just come rolling in...

But what else will happen?

  • You boss might/will see it
  • Unscrupulous rec-to-recs might spam it out to 50 different companies without your permission (or even your knowledge)
  • Your colleagues might see it
  • You will get loads of surreptitious phone calls, texts and emails and people will become suspicious
  • Once it's out there, there's no knowing who's desk it will land on (maybe even yours!)

    Do's and Dont's
    1. Do make sure you are able to back up all the claims on your CV and don't cover up bad career moves, be honest!
    2. Do have an honest and credible reason for leaving/changing jobs that will make perfect sense to an interviewer
    3. Don't have an unprofessional personal email address such as:'totallymentalgothmags@...' or 'dosserdaveonabeach@...' It will make you look frivolous and unprofessional
    4. Do cover your body piercing and tattoos on a job interview, however much they are an essential extension of your unique personality
    5. Do know, and be able to quote both your billing levels and performance ratios, that's interviews to placements, sales calls to visits booked, visits attended to new clients won etc.
    6. Don't slag off your ex or existing employer - we all know we shouldn't, but sometimes we do...
    7. Do spell check and grammar check your CV personally, we come across the old howlers constantly, there for their, wrong dates or company names etc.
It can easily put off a puritan.
    8. Do take a pen and pad into an interview with you and make notes
    9. Do look the part - a business suit, with jacket, is required!
    10. Don't forget to close the sale - the employer is the client and the candidate is you!
    11. Yes, it goes up to 11... Do contact Wave to find your proper home in Recruitment
